Al Lyon Award - Al Lyon began officiating in the NBOA in the early sixties and officiated at various levels until his death in 1986. Al was an extremely dedicated individual and he had tremendous loyalty to the NBOA. In essence, he was a team player. This award is given annually to the official who most exemplifies the spirit of Al.

Bob Alvarado Award - Bob was very active in sports and officiated multiple sports at various levels. Throughout Bob's 23 years with the NBOA, he was very instrumental in the training of new officials, serving as a mentor and role model. In January 1994, Bob suffered a severe stroke, which had left him completely paralyzed on one side. However, Bob continued his interest in sports and the well-being of the NBOA. Bob passed away in April 2000. This award is presented to the most outstanding 1st through 3rd year official, based on co-official/coaches ratings, test scores, attitude and dedication.
