NBOA Scholarship Requirements

The North Bay Officials Association is currently accepting applications for our 2010 scholarship. Varsity football players seeking to continue their education in a college, junior college, trade or vocational school are encouraged to apply. Requirements and instructions are listed below.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must:
(1) Fill out application, which can be found on this web site.
(2) Get recommendation and letter from head coach or athletic director.
(3) Submit a short essay (1-3 pages). Details listed below.

Criteria for Application:

1. The applicant must be a senior and have played at least two years high school football, including one year at the varsity level. Position, playing time and status will not be considered by the committee.
2. The applicant must have played football at the varsity level at a school that is contracted with the North Bay Officials Association.
3. The applicant must have demonstrated a superior degree of sportsmanship, fairness, enthusiasm, spirit, leadership and overall good moral character during his high school career, both on and off the football field.
4. The applicant must submit a typed and signed letter from his head coach or athletic director supporting the applicant in his efforts to advance into a College, Junior College or trade/vocational school.
5. The letter must be an original signed by the coach/AD and include a contact address and phone number to verify authenticity.
6. The applicant is not required to continue efforts at a football program at the college level.
7. Other sports, activities, clubs, interests, where good moral character and sportsmanship is shown may be considered by the committee. Letters of support from other coaches, teachers and/or leaders are encouraged and will be considered.
8. The applicant must graduate with a high school diploma.
9. The applicant must submit a NBOA application and a 1-3 page, typed essay outlining his request for the scholarship. Special emphasis should be placed on the spirit and sportsmanship of the game of football.

The essay should indicate:
(a) What school(s) he is interested in;
(b) What course of study he is interested in and outline career/life goals.
The application, instructions and criteria will be maintained on the NBOA web site.
10. The packet of reports must indicate all criteria listed above and must be submitted by March 1, 2011.
